The Home Entertainment Network: Defining the Requirements
The market is rapidly moving to high-definition digital content which television networks are broadcasting and people are recording on their high-definition digital video recorders. Movies are available on Blu-Ray discs. Displays capable of showing 1080p are now mass market products. What’s missing is a way to conveniently and cost-effectively connect these devices – and others – within the home using wireless connections.
The requirements for wireless video were clearly defined by the IEEE committee 802.15-03/276r0 and published in July 2003. Five leading consumer electronics companies --Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Sony -- identified the must-haves in this market. They included: link reliability of greater than 98% to avoid macro blocking and pixelation, a packet error rate of 10-8 to eliminate dropped frames in high-definition viewing, and interference robustness.
Tzero’s ultra wideband solution meets these requirements. It provides the ability to connect virtually any type of A/V component with any display anywhere in the home using exclusively wireless links.
